Certify Your Non-Tobacco User Status – and Receive a Credit!
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that tobacco users spend $3,391 more on medical, prescription drug-related, and dental expenses per year than non-tobacco users. That's why we’re offering a credit for non-tobacco users. You can save $600* on your annual medical and $60* on your annual dental contributions if you and your covered spouse or same-sex domestic partner are non-tobacco users*.
You are eligible to receive the credit if you meet all of the following criteria:

You are enrolled in a VZW medical or dental plan,
- You and your enrolled spouse/same-sex domestic partner qualify as non-tobacco users by either having not used tobacco for three consecutive months prior to certification, or having completed a tobacco cessation program such as VZW QuitNet in the past 12 months, and
- You actively certify that you and your enrolled spouse/same-sex domestic partner are non-tobacco users.
If either you or your covered spouse or same-sex domestic partner is a current user of tobacco, you will both be considered users of tobacco products and you will not receive a discount. If you do not cover your spouse or same-sex domestic partner under your medical or dental plan, your non-tobacco certification is only for you.
It’s Not Too Late!
Employees and eligible dependents who currently use tobacco products but complete a tobacco cessation program, such as the one offered through VZW QuitNet, can become eligible for the non-tobacco user credit. Register this life event at any time on Your Benefits Resources™.
If you or your spouse currently use tobacco products, you can still become eligible for the non-tobacco user credit after being tobacco-free for three consecutive months prior to certifying. If you certify non-tobacco user status after 1/1/09, you may be eligible to receive a prorated non-tobacco user credit.
